Flavored crackers, chips, gum, etc.

The other day i bought some "roasted onion" flavored triskets.  Sounds good, right?  i had a lot of trouble identifying any flavors besides "salt".

which made me think, hey, do they just suggest flavors and we're supposed to think that's what it tastes like?  i know the douga always looks forward to the Company Store catalog because they always change the names of the colors.  "Hey look, sky blue is now scintillating sea!"

And the flavored gum, especially the two-flavored gum, or the dessert gums.  does a little cininamon and apple flavor really equal apple pie?
